Mihaela (Micky) Olson

Born in Romania, Mihaela Olson grew up in Berlin, Germany where she trained in gymnastics at the elite athletics and Olympic training school SLZB. During those years, she won two gold medals competing in the Berlin Gymnastics Federation Championships (BTB) in 1998 and 1999.
Mihaela switched to ballet at the age of 10 and began her professional training in the State Ballet School of Berlin, where she studied for 9 years under the direction of Gregor Seyffert. During her Vaganova training, she performed in original works by contemporary choreographers including Gregor Seyffert, Marc Bogaerts, Marguerite Donlon, Birgit Scherzer, Jan Linkens and Torsten Händler, and gave guest performances in Germany, Great Britain, Belgium, and Poland. She also performed with the Berlin State Ballet in Berlin and Switzerland. Mihaela won silver medals at the 2005 and 2006 TANZOLYMP International Dance Festivals in Berlin, and was a finalist in the 2007 National Dance and Ballet Competition (ÖTR-CONTEST) in Vienna.
Mihaela attended workshops in Lyon and Budapest, William Forsythe’s Improvisation Technologies workshop in Berlin, and the first Dance Education Biennale/Tanzplan Deutschland. During her last years of training in Germany, she apprenticed with Gregor Seyffert & Compangnie in Dessau, and earned her Bachelor of Arts at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts University in 2009. After graduation, she went on to dance with The Theater Plauen Zwickau under the direction of Torsten Händler.
Two years later, Mihaela moved to Jackson, Mississippi to join the Ballet Magnificat! trainee program. She joined Alpha Company under the direction of Kathy Thibodeaux the following year. There she taught master classes and performed in South and Central America, the Caribbean, Israel, across Europe and the United States. Mihaela and her husband Samuel moved to Colorado Springs in July of 2017, where she teaches at Colorado Ballet Society.
