Mia Kay Calabrese

Director of Operations
Pre-Pointe Instructor

Miss Mia has been immersed in the dance world for over 20 years in many aspects including; student and professional dancer, instructor and choreographer, administrative assistant and full-time studio manager/director positions, to guest speaker.

​

She has worked in administration and management in the dance world for over a decade. Five of those years were spent as Studio Manager for Colorado Ballet Society under the direction of Patricia Hoffman (2015-2020) where Mia managed the studio and assisted in various roles such as Managing Praise Dance Ensemble, Sparkle Dance Program Administrator, implementing the Teacher Assistant Program as well as implementing the National Honor Society for Dance Arts Secondary Chapter.

While with Colorado Ballet Society, Mia taught, choreographed, managed and assisted the Director in many aspects including; aided in facilitating several teacher training workshops hosted at CBS such as Progressing Ballet Technique, ABT Teacher Training Workshop and Acrobatic Arts Teacher Training Workshop. She was also on the committee for Southern Colorado Children’s Arts Festival for several years where she coordinated local studios to perform each year.

Her dance training began around the West Michigan area at a young age with the Academy of Dance Arts under the Cecchetti instruction of Debra Burr and at North Ballet Theatre under the Vaganova instruction of Olga Smirnov

​

At the age of 12, she continued her classical ballet training with Turning Pointe School of Dance (Michigan) under the instruction of Rick and Lara Faucher and Hearts In Step Dance Academy (Michigan) under the instruction of Tassia Johnson and Hannah Sullivan, before moving to Colorado Springs to audition for and join Ballet Emmanuel (Erin Benson-Dial) in a full-time company position. While with Ballet Emmanuel, she managed administrative duties, performed, toured, and taught master classes and workshops all over the United States.

Miss Mia has directed & choreographed for ballet, contemporary and worship dance productions (Fidele Youth Dance Company, Colorado Youth Ballet, Connexus Dance Collective, Praise Dance Ensemble, DanceArt Academy - The Nutcracker, The Nutcracker of Castle Rock - Castle Rock Dance Academy), choreographed, coached (Youth American Grand Prix & Denver Ballet Guild) and taught throughout Colorado. Many of her dancers have gone on to professional careers in dance or with collegiate programs.

She had additional training with Ballet Magnificat! (Kathy Thibodeaux), Grand Rapids Ballet Company (Patricia Barker), and The Joffrey Ballet of Chicago (Ashley Wheater). In 2016, Miss Mia received her certification in Level One Dance Injury & Prevention by Perfect Form Physiotherapy (Lisa Howell). In 2018 she became a certified and licensed Progressing Ballet Technique Instructor.

In 2019, 2020, & 2022 she was a Guest Speaker/Keynote Speaker for Christian Dance Educators Leadership Summit (CDELS) founded, hosted and led by Ballet 5:8 (Julianna Slager).

​

In January 2022, Tendu by Miss Mia LLC, was launched, where she serves the dance community worldwide, consulting, coaching & training dancers, dance educators, company directors, administrators, and managers to further their career and expand their expertise.

​

As Director of Operations for Colorado Ballet Society, Miss Mia Calabrese will work closely with senior management and directors in developing long-term operational strategies that help meet company objectives with a goal of establishing and cultivating a culture of opportunity, positivity, success and appreciation.

​

Miss Mia is looking forward to her return to Colorado Ballet Society for her 6th season!
