Ballet Society National Honor Society for Dance Arts Chapter Provides Workshop for Local Children

The National Honor Society for Dance Arts chapter of Colorado Ballet Society is coordinating with the Community Partnership for Child Development CPCD…giving children a head start program, to provide a Dance Workshop on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at Ballet Society studios.

“We are looking forward to hosting this dance workshop for children in the Head Start program,” shares Ballet Society founder and director, Patricia Hoffman. “We believe that dance can have a positive impact on all members of our community and it’s our goal to create dance experiences which will inspire and elevate.”

CPCD is a 501(c)(3) with three core programs and is the grantee for two federally funded programs, Head Start serving children ages 3-5, providing comprehensive educational, physical and behavioral health, and family development services with an emphasis on prevention and early intervention. Early Head Start serves pregnant mothers and children birth to 3, enhances the physical, emotional and cognitive development of our youngest citizens, with a focus on family stability. The third core program is The Colorado Preschool Program which is state funded. This program serves children 3-5 and is a partnership with local school districts to provide the same comprehensive early childhood education a Head Start student receives.

All CPCD programs are free of charge for children to attend. HS and EHS, families must live below the federal poverty level or have a child with a special need to qualify. CPP funding is a little different and they have a list of criteria that would place a child at risk for school failure which would qualify a child for services. Currently CPCD partners with 6 local school districts: 2, 3, 8, 11, 20 & 49.

Up to 60 HS students will participate in three mini dance classes at CBS studios. These classes - ballet, hip hop, and contemporary - will be taught by Colorado Ballet Society National Honor Society of Dance Arts members. Participants will experience a photo opportunity with dancers in costumes and snacks will be provided as well.

On the day of the workshop, 1-3 scholarships will be awarded to participants allocating one year of dance training at Colorado Ballet Society for deserving participants.

NHSDA members are actively raising funds for the scholarships by selling flower bouquets to the 3 upcoming spring performances that Colorado Ballet Society is producing April-June. They are also baking and selling snacks on Saturdays at the studio.
